Unbridled growth, poor quality of life, and the daily grind—these adjectives truly do not belong to the city we are going to talk about today!

In today's world, where sustainability, social consciousness, and quality of life are increasingly important, Bertioga, a coastal city on the border between the North and South coasts of São Paulo, stands out with these characteristics.

About 1 hour and 20 minutes from the capital of São Paulo, reaching the coast is no excuse for those who want to breathe new air!

Besides being my hometown, my inspiration, Bertioga is much more than a coastal refuge. But what makes Bertioga special?

I may be biased, but since childhood, I have sought to learn more about my city's history. It has a rich historical, cultural, and gastronomic heritage.

Starting with the history of Brazil, the settlement of Bertioga began in 1531. It was a strategic defensive point for Brazil, watching against the French. The first forts in Brazil were built there: São João and São Felipe. At Fort São João, in 1563, José de Anchieta stayed for 5 days on his journey to the northern coast to go to Ubatuba and appease the indigenous people in the Tamoios Confederation. In 1565, Estácio de Sá left with his caravan from Bertioga, then known as Buriquióca (an indigenous name), to fight the French and found the city of Rio de Janeiro! But it wasn't all pleasant; it was also the scene of many clashes between indigenous people, whale oil exploitation, and logging, such as brazilwood.

From the 1940s, with road expansion, the fishing village began its development, bringing us to today, with its history renewed, vibrant, and beautiful!

Some facts about tourist attractions:

• 482 km in area, the 2nd largest city by territory on the Paulista coast;
• Access via highways: Eco-vias/Imigrantes System, Mogi-Bertioga, Rio-Santos, ferry-boat/Guarujá;
• 33 km of beaches;
• Among tourist attractions: Vila de Itatinga (founded in 1910, a hydroelectric plant still in operation, supplying energy to the Port of Santos), with 70 British-style houses.

Sesc Holiday Colony: Founded in 1948, Brazil's first Sesc holiday colony (one of my first jobs!). An oasis, with impeccable service and respect for the environment.

Riviera: A model development in Brazil, founded in 1979, it is a planned neighborhood that aims for development, design, and sustainability.

Aldeia Rio-Silveira: A Guarani indigenous village, located on the border between Bertioga and São Sebastião, in Boracéia. A population of 500 indigenous people. The city also hosts the National Indigenous Festival in April, the largest national event promoting indigenous culture!

Gastronomy: Festivals such as the Pumpkin Shrimp Festival, the Pastel Festival, and the Mullet Festival are already a landmark of the Caiçara and Bertioga culture, enjoyed every year!

Rivers: It has 3 main rivers: Itaguaré, Guaratuba, and Jacareguava, with one of the largest hydrographic basins on the coast. Tours and visits can be accompanied by local guides. In addition to many ecotourism trails and beautiful beaches!
